Base Name Service (BNS) is a Web3 naming service built on Base. It maps human-readable names like “bob.base” to crypto wallet addresses, AA addresses, decentralized webs, hashes, and metadata. This makes it easier for users to interact with blockchain addresses. It's the same as ENS on Ethereum, only on Base.
There may be an BNS airdrop although this is not confirmed. There may also be a Base airdrop, again not confirmed. Buying a .base domain might be a wise idea though, just in case either happen. They are pretty cheap by name service standards, with the shortest names (3 letters) only costing $19.99 a year and the longest only costing $2.99 a year.
Plus buying a .base name now will secure you a genesis box, although how these would tie into an airdrop is uncertain as no airdrop has been officially confirmed.
If you do decide to participate, based off previous name service airdrops (such as the ENS airdrop) we suggest purchasing at least 3 domains. At least one should be a 3 letter domain if possible and the longer you can register them for, the better. Historically, these factors are what are considered during name service airdrops. However, this is all speculation as there has been no official announcement as of yet and there may never be a BNS airdrop or a Base airdrop.
